MINI GRANTS
Thank you again for the mini-grant for The Devil’s Arithmetic novels for my students. We have been reading them together now for a little over a week! It is greatly appreciated to have them available in print so that my students can use them to find text evidence to show how to apply our daily vocabulary word, as well as to show how the author has used figures of speech, character development, find inferences, and discover themes. Here are a couple of pictures—one from each of my 6th grade classes at West Valley Middle School! Again, thank you so much for this grant!
Sincerely,
Renee Berger

Due to a fire in the Sunnyside Christian Schools Ag building there was a need to replace most of the electrical hand tools. This year’s Mini Grant ($320) allowed the school to purchase four 41/2-inch handheld grinders. These grinders are utilized by 30 students each day and are expected to have a 10-year life span.
It has taken two years of consistent fund raising to replace all the tools damaged in the fire. In this same span of time the Woodworking and Metals classes have increased in enrollment, thus increasing our needs.
As many of you know, I am a retired educator having spent nine years teaching and coaching in Ellensburg, three years as a vice principal in Ferndale and the remainder of my career at Wapato High School as the principal. About six years ago, as a volunteer, I came alongside a gentleman who was hired as the shop teacher at SCHS to assist him. Unfortunately, he had to quit after a year due to his wife’s illness. So, I became the shop teacher as a volunteer. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to be in the classroom again with young people who are grades 10-12.
I am so happy to inform you that Sunnyside Christian Schools and the students appreciate very much the support of the YCSRA Mini Grant program, this was our second year (last year we received $350 and were able to replace four handheld electric sanders for the Woodshop) of being a recipient of a Mini-Grant.
Thank you all for your Mini-Grant program and all you do to help the students of Yakima County further their learning experience.

I just wanted to send a heartfelt thank you for awarding Toppenish High School the mini grant again this year. I’ve attached a short PDF to show how your generosity has helped us encourage better attendance and celebrate our students throughout the year. Your support truly makes a difference, and we’re so grateful for the continued opportunity to recognize our students in meaningful ways.
